Program Introduction
Development goal
The program equips students with research capabilities that will enable them to undertake applied research in foreign or domestic institutions of higher learning and research. Under the guidance of our world-class faculty, doctoral candidates are expected to write quality theses to the same standard as their peers from prominent international schools. Moreover, students are also encouraged to intellectually contribute to major theoretical and policy issues in China's financial sector.

Program duration
5-6 years for doctoral students with a Bachelor’s degree
4 years for doctoral students with a Master’s degree
Courses and credits
All students shall obtain a minimum of 39 credits; the average grade of major specialized courses shall not be lower than B, and the GPA shall be no less than 2.7.
Academic essays
A review or a research paper shall be finished before the end of the summer in the first academic year; a publishable research paper shall be finished before the end of the summer in the second academic year. Overseas training
PhD students may apply for 6-12 months of training in overseas universities, subsidized by the university's (or state) funds. Overseas partner universities where students have studied include: MIT, UC Berkeley, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, the Wharton School, and University of Toronto.
Dissertation
The dissertation shall comply with the applicable rules of the institute, including the Dissertation Requirements by the PhD Program of the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
