Highlights from SAIF MF Shanghai Mini-Camp

The first 2017 SAIF MF mini-camp was held successfully at SAIF Pudong Campus in Shanghai from April 7th to April 9th. Faculty director Prof. Charles Chang, director of Career Development Center Mr. Simon Shen, Prof. Lei Zhu, Mr. Allen Chou from HNA Innohouse, MF student representatives and alumni attended the activity.

Despite a huge storm and gale force winds, 55 students showed up on time. The activity began at 9.30 a.m. on April 7th., with welcome and opening remarks by Prof. Charles Chang. In his statement, Prof. Chang mentioned there are still strong demands for financial talents in Shanghai. The figure could be several hundred thousand if compared with the statistics on financial talents employment ratio for other major global financial centers, such as New York, London, Hong Kong and etc. Furthermore, in his greeting, Prof. Charles Chang explained to all students the importance of finance. “Financial education is important to both the security of individuals and the security of nations.“ To him, finance is not just about making more money. Finance is a mechanism for sharing, a solution to motivate people to collaborate.

Mr. Chris Gao, head of MF admission, then explained to students the core values of SAIF——Professionalism, Ownership, Innovation, Excellence. Students are expected to constantly improve their professionalism, to innovate, to excel towards their goals, with a spirit of ownership. He also introduced features and class profile of the program as well as the schedule for mini-camp. Mr. Shen, director of Career Development Center, introduced the main services of CDC and the employment statistics of previous graduates.

During the Industry talk, Prof. Lei Zhu gave a lecture on the topic of China’s stock market and value investing. She also generously shared the secret to happiness, which is low expectations.

Mini-Camp event consists of intense evaluation components as well as interesting enterprise visits, industry talks and sharing from student representatives and alumni. Student representatives from MF class of 2016 and other alumni shared how they feel about SAIF MF program with their own true stories.

No discord, no concord. Students were acquainted with each other after these three days. Some of them even forged profound friendship.
