2025-04-25

On March 25th, global academic publisher Elsevier released the "2024 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" list, honoring three professors from the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Professors Feng Li, Jun Pan, and Ning Zhu received recognition in the fields of Industry & Business Administration and Applied Economics. Professors Pan and Zhu have appeared on the list for four consecutive years, while Professor Li has been recognized for the third year in a row.

Methodology and Significance

The list was compiled using data from Scopus, a leading citation and indexing database, with statistical methodology developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. This comprehensive analysis identified Chinese scholars across various career stages, evaluating their research performance through multiple dimensions. Now in its 11th year of publication, the list continues to attract substantial attention from academic and media communities both in China and internationally. This prestigious recognition not only highlights the distribution of talent in China's scientific research landscape but also showcases  prominent researchers in key areas.

Enhanced Coverage for 2024

The 2024 edition features updated data based on China SCADC categories, encompassing 111 subjects. This refinement provides a more scientific and accurate representation of Chinese scholars' research contributions—while introducing outstanding researchers from specialized fields to broader audiences.

This year's list recognized 6,388 scholars from 547 universities, enterprises, and research institutions across 10 subjects from 83 China SCADC categories. Shanghai Jiao Tong University made a strong showing with 196 scholars receiving recognition.
