2024-04-26

On March 27th, Elsevier, a prestigious global academic publisher, unveiled the "2023 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" list. Three professors from the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) were honored as Highly Cited Researchers in the fields of Industry & Business Administration and Applied Economics: Feng Li, Jun Pan, and Ning Zhu. Notably, Professors Jun Pan and Ning Zhu have been consecutively featured on the list for the third year, while Professor Feng Li has been recognized for the second consecutive year.

Methodology and Scope

The List was compiled based on data from Scopus, an authoritative citation and indexing database, employing a statistical methodology developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. The analysis and identification of Chinese scholars at various career stages were conducted across multiple dimensions to systematically present their research performance. This year marks the 10th publication of the list by Elsevier and Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, garnering significant attention from media outlets and scholars both domestically and internationally.

The list not only systematically showcases the current distribution of talent in China's scientific research landscape but also accurately presents the academic influence of top disciplines across institutions and universities, as well as the leading researchers in key areas.

Enhancements and Expanded Coverage

For the 2023 edition, Elsevier utilized updated data based on the China SCADC categories, encompassing 111 subjects. This enhancement improved the scientific and accurate depiction of Chinese scholars' research output while introducing more outstanding researchers in subdivided fields to the public.

The 2023 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers List covered 10 subjects from 84 China SCADC categories and included a total of 5,801 scholars from 496 universities, enterprises, and research institutions. Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) had a significant presence on the list, with 179 scholars recognized.
