Mr. Li Yang is an Adjunct Professor of Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the president of the National Institution for Finance & Development.

He received a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a doctorate degree in economics from Anhui University, Fudan University, and Renmin University of China in 1981, 1984, and 1989, respectively.

From 1998 to 1999, he was a visiting scholar at Columbia University.

Professor Li is currently a Member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, an Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, the President of National Institution for Finance & Development, the Director of Economic Department of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Vice President of China Society for Finance and Banking, the Vice President of China International Finance Society, the Vice President of China Urban Financial Society, the Vice Chairman of the China Association of Marine Affairs, and a member of Financial and Economic Committee of the National People's Congress.

He was a deputy to the 12th National People's Congress, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and a member of the third-term Monetary Policy Committee of the People's Bank of China.

Mr. Li has published 32 monographs and translations, more than 500 papers, and has prepared more than 200 research reports. He has edited 7 major financial reference books such as the Finance, Fiscal, and Commodity Price Volume of the Encyclopedia of China, Chinese Financial Thesaurus, Dictionary of Finance, etc. He has presided over more than 100 international joint research programs and research projects at the national and ministerial level or above.

He is a five-time winner of the Sun Yefang Economic Science Award. He won the China Soft Science Award, the first "Sun Yefang Financial Innovation Award" in 2015, and the Zhang Peigang Development Economics Award in 2016.

In 1992, he won the title of National Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions and was granted the special government allowance of the State Council of China. In 1997, he was included in the first and second-level candidates of the first national "Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents Project”. In 2002, he won the title of “National Outstanding Professional”.
