The Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University recently served as the exclusive academic partner for the 9th Wealth APAC Forum and 2024 International Private and Family Wealth Management Industry Awards Ceremony. The prestigious event, hosted by Wealth magazine, took place at Shanghai's North Bund, bringing together industry leaders to explore the theme "Quality-Oriented, Moving Forward with Innovation."
The forum attracted senior executives and experts from diverse sectors serving China's high-net-worth individuals—including private banks, family offices, trusts, insurance companies, securities firms, law firms, consulting firms, offshore financial institutions, and comprehensive financial service providers. Discussions centered on the high-quality development of private banking, wealth management institutions' social responsibilities, and the promotion of wealth for societal benefit.
SAIF Term Professor Fei Wu delivered a keynote address titled "Family Wealth Management: The Keys to Protecting, Managing, and Inheriting Wealth." His presentation outlined the fundamental elements of successful family wealth management, emphasizing the importance of short-term risk mitigation for wealth preservation, strategic investment and diverse asset management, and long-term family cohesion with effective inheritance planning.
Professor Wu emphasized that family wealth management's core challenge lies in balancing human relationships with wealth stewardship. He noted that successful family governance requires unifying diverse family members' interests, ideas, and demands toward common objectives. The integration of these elements creates a robust framework for sustainable wealth preservation and growth across generations.
The forum featured a specialized panel discussion on "The Development of Chinese Family Offices," where industry experts explored the theme "Global Vision, Local Wisdom: The 'New-quality' Service Capabilities of Chinese Family Offices." This session provided valuable insights into emerging trends and best practices in family office management within the Chinese context.
