On December 23, 2023, the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) hosted the “2023 China Sustainable Investment Development Forum” at its Xuhui campus.
Experts, scholars, and industry leaders from various research institutes, financial firms, and related organizations gathered to discuss solutions to promote green economic growth and sustainable development. This supports China’s “dual carbon” strategic goals and global sustainability efforts.
SAIF Executive Director and Sustainable Investment Research Center Chief Advisor Guangshao Tu welcomed participants. As quoted, “It is necessary to coordinate capital needs, financial system reform, market efficiency, institutional transformation, and product/service innovation between long-term goals and short-term interests of all market participants, between policy and mechanism, research and practice, domestic and foreign realms, and between business and talent cultivation.”
Professor Tu stated SAIF, as an international finance-focused school, will simultaneously develop curriculum, research, industry-academia collaboration, high-level forums, and practice to serve national green development strategy and upgrade Shanghai’s sustainability and energy.
SAIF signed cooperation agreements with Shanghai Environmental Energy Exchange and Shenergy Group Finance Co. Using complementary strengths, the parties will jointly research, organize conferences, and develop talent.
Sustainable Investment Research Center Director Hong Yan introduced the Center's work. Keynote speeches were delivered by Franklin Templeton Asia-Pacific Chair Yu Meng, Center Deputy Dean Tan Wang, China-U.S. Green Fund Chair Lin Xu, and Shanghai Environmental Energy Exchange Chair Xiaoming Lai, sharing insights from research and practice on China's sustainability strategy.
In discussion sessions, participants explored challenges and solutions to accelerate green and sustainable investment in China.
