2025-10-22

To enhance students' global business acumen and strengthen international academic collaboration, the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University successfully conducted a four-day overseas study module at Universitas Indonesia from September 30 to October 3, 2025. Organized under the guidance of the SJTU Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute (SJTU-APGI) and in partnership with the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI), the program attracted over 30 SAIF students from the Master of Finance (MF) and MBA programs.

Led by SAIF's Professor Hu Jie, the module adopted a "theory plus practice" model to provide students with in-depth insights into Indonesia's business ecosystem. The curriculum featured five core lectures delivered by FEB UI's distinguished professors and local industry experts, covering Indonesia's startup ecosystem, halal industry and marketing, supply chain innovation, cross-cultural negotiation, and sustainable investment in ASEAN. The content closely aligned with Indonesia's industrial characteristics and global business trends, equipping students with essential regional market knowledge.

The program also included visits to four leading Indonesian financial institutions: OVO, one of Indonesia's largest online payment platforms; Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), the Islamic financial leader; PT Trimegah Securities, a prominent securities firm; and the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), the national investment agency. These visits allowed students to observe local business operations firsthand and bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world practice.

Post-module feedback from students reflected high satisfaction with the program. "The beautiful experience of cross-cultural communication, and the thoughtfully arranged details were truly moving. It's not just about knowledge—it's about understanding how business works in a diverse market like Indonesia," shared one MBA student. Another MF student emphasized the value of corporate visits: "Visiting companies like INA let me see beyond textbooks. I got to ask industry leaders questions directly, which gave me a clearer picture of Indonesia's business landscape."

This overseas study module carries significant strategic value for both SAIF and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. By collaborating with FEB UI, a prestigious academic institution in Indonesia, SAIF continues to expand its global academic network and enhance its commitment to high-quality international education. The module immerses students in diverse cultural and business environments, outfitting them with essential cross-cultural communication skills and regional market insights. This experience prepares them to become future business leaders capable of thriving in the globalized economy.

On July 2023, SAIF launched its Southeast Asia Center to advance its international education endeavors. In response to the urgent needs of the current market, SAIF SEA Center will focus on education and consulting services as its core offerings, integrating resources from various parties to empower students and Chinese entrepreneurs with a global perspective.
