The Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University has published a groundbreaking report analyzing the commercial, ecosystem, and development trends of the Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) industry in China and the United States. This collaborative effort, undertaken by SAIF's EED (EMBA, GES, EE) Programs, the Shanghai-Hong Kong International Innovation Finance Laboratory, and the SAIF LIVE Learning Center (LLC), examines AIGC commercialization cases from January 2021 to March 2024.
The report presents a detailed comparative analysis of AIGC industry ecosystems in both nations, exploring the implementation of AIGC applications across key industrial sectors. It provides strategic insights and recommendations for enterprises and institutions regarding industrial development, investment strategies, and policy frameworks.
Key findings reveal distinct development patterns in both countries: the United States demonstrates an innovation-driven approach, while China's advancement is primarily market-demand-oriented. The research identifies rapid progress in several key application areas. Significant advancement has been observed in code development and knowledge management, alongside substantial progress in content creation and customer service applications. The integration of AIGC technology in scientific research, particularly in healthcare and medicine, has shown remarkable potential for innovation and efficiency improvements.
The report highlights significant advancement in AIGC technology adoption across the finance, information technology, and healthcare sectors. However, it also identifies critical challenges in the commercialization process—including technical barriers, computing power costs, and difficulties in corpus acquisition.
While acknowledging the technology's market potential, the report emphasizes that AIGC's development and commercialization face ongoing challenges and uncertainties. Continuous industry monitoring and research will be crucial for maximizing its application potential and commercial cross-sector value.
The research was conducted under the leadership of Professor Zhan Jiang, SAIF Term Professor and EED Programs Faculty Director and Executive Director. Her expertise in innovation finance provided the theoretical foundation and methodological framework for this comprehensive analysis.
