2025-02-22

Faculty members from Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) participated in the 2025 Allied Social Science Association (ASSA) Annual Meeting in San Francisco from January 3-5, 2025. The delegation leveraged this illustrious platform to showcase their research and host a reception through the American Finance Association (AFA) to recruit exceptional young professors globally.

The SAIF reception, held on January 3, drew nearly 200 distinguished scholars and emerging academic talents from around the world. Notable attendees included Jun Pan (Chair of SAIF Faculty Council), Hong Yan (SAIF Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs and Faculty), Chair Professors of Finance Chun Chang, Xiaoyun Yu, and Yongxiang Wang, and Assistant Professor of Finance Yu Li. The event was further enriched by the presence of 2022 Nobel Economics Laureate Philip H. Dybvig, Princeton University's Professor Wei Xiong, and Stanford University's Professor Zhiguo He. Participants engaged in substantive discussions on cutting-edge developments in finance, recent research breakthroughs, and opportunities for international collaboration.

The ASSA Annual Meeting, one of the most prestigious gatherings in economics, brings together 64 affiliated societies, including the American Finance Association (AFA), the Association of Financial Economists (AFE), and the American Economic Association (AEA). The conference features specialized sessions across various economic disciplines and contemporary research areas.

During the conference, SAIF faculty presented groundbreaking research in multiple sessions. Professor Jun Pan delivered her latest findings on "The Stock-Bond Correlation: A Tale of Two Days in the U.S. Treasury Bond Market" at the AFA's Safe Assets Markets session on January 3. The following day, Professor Xiaoyun Yu presented her research titled "Social Priorities, Institutional Quality, and Investment" at the AFE's Social Priorities and Corporate Objectives session.

In a historic achievement, Professor Jun Pan was appointed to the AFA Nominating Committee, becoming the first finance professor from a Chinese university to serve in this capacity. She attended the committee's internal meeting on January 5, where she will contribute to recommending candidates for the association's board of directors, ensuring leadership comprises individuals with exceptional academic achievements and proven leadership capabilities.

This marks SAIF's fourteenth consecutive year of participation in the ASSA Annual Meeting and hosting receptions, reflecting the institute's growing influence and sustained commitment to excellence in the international academic community.
