The Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) and the China Academy of Financial Research (CAFR) jointly organized the 7th SAIF-CAFR Financial Research Summer Camp from July 12th to 13th, 2024, at the SAIF Xuhui Campus. This year marked the first time since 2020 that the camp was held entirely onsite, attracting young professors, Ph.D. students, and researchers from prestigious universities in China and abroad. Notably, approximately 20% of the applicants hailed from regions outside mainland China.
Professor Hong Yan—Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs and Faculty and Chair Professor of Finance at SAIF—delivered a warm welcome speech to commence the camp. "The camp aims to inspire participants' future academic careers by equipping them with innovative research methodologies and fresh perspectives from renowned scholars globally. Moreover, it seeks to contribute to the growth of research and teaching quality in the finance field within China," emphasized Professor Yan.
The Summer Camp featured lectures by three distinguished finance scholars:
Professor Zhaogang Song, Professor of Finance at Carey School of Business, Johns Hopkins University
Professor Adlai Fisher, Professor of Finance at Sauder School of Business, the University of British Columbia
Professor Guofu Zhou, Visiting Research Professor of Finance at SAIF and Chair Professor of Finance at Washington University in St. Louis
The topics covered included "The Federal Reserve, Financial Markets, and Financial Research", "Technological Innovation and Asset Pricing / Announcements in Finance", and "Predictability, ChatGPT, ML Models, and Portfolio Optimization".
Throughout the camp, participants engaged in in-depth discussions with the professors and expressed their enthusiasm for future iterations of the Financial Research Summer Camp program.
