On March 29th, Times Higher Education (THE) released the China Subject Ratings 2023 report, which evaluated universities in mainland China in 83 subjects on a scale of A+ to C-. Shanghai Jiao Tong University performed exceptionally well in this year's ratings, with 46 disciplines receiving an A+ ranking, placing it second among mainland Chinese universities. Notably, four disciplines co-constructed by SAIF (Applied Economics, Industry & Business Administration, Management Science and Engineering, and Statistics) were awarded the A+ designation again, demonstrating SAIF's commitment to academic excellence.
The THE China Subject Ratings provide universities in mainland China with an opportunity to compare their academic strengths with other universities worldwide. This year's ratings included 1,777 universities globally, including 95 in mainland China. The discipline classification system by the Chinese Ministry of Education was used to measure performance in various subjects. In 79 disciplines, at least one university in mainland China received an A+ designation, with universities receiving a cumulative total of 517 A+ awards. Of note, six universities received A+ in Applied Economics, nine in Industry & Business Administration, seven in Management Science and Engineering, and eight in Statistics.
The data used for the THE China Subject Ratings was derived from the THE World University Rankings 2023, the THE China Reputation Survey 2022 and 2023, the THE Academic Reputation Survey 2020 and 2021, and Elsevier bibliometrics.
