Highlights of 2018 SAIF MF Mini Camp--April

2018-05-09

Spring rain fails to dampen mini camp participants' enthusiasm! Two SAIF MF Mini Camps have successfully been held in Shanghai and Beijing during April. 108 elite students from universities across the country gathered to enjoy two memorable weekends.

Info sessions held on the morning of the first day were open to both campers and interested students. The Faculty Director of the SAIF MF program, Prof. Zhan JIANG, delivered the welcome speech and introduced SAIF and the MF program.

SAIF is among the youngest AACSB-accredited business schools in the world, with the Master of Finance degree as the premier program at SAIF. Ranking as the No. 1 program of its kind in Asia and No. 14 in the world, the SAIF MF program cultivates a large number of talents in the financial sector.

Prof. Zhan JIANG elaborated on the 2 major ideas of MF -- to develop talents with a solid understanding of the core principles in finance and their applications, and to cultivate these future leaders for the financial industry. In addition to the technical skills provided by the core finance classes, SAIF emphasizes the development of the student's soft skills through the LIVE Learning Center and the "Extended Learning and Student Activities" (ELSA) seminars, which help students enhance their practical skills and knowledge.

Prof. Zhan JIANG highlighted this year's MF's new track: the MF- FinTech Program. This track allows students to adapt with the changing finance landscape. In addition to core courses in -finance, the MF-FinTech program emphasizes rigorous training in statistics, machine learning, computer skills, and their applications.

Senior Admissions Manager of the MF program, Mr. Chris GAO, introduced the application process of the MF program and the agenda of the mini camps. He stressed that the main purpose of the mini camps was not for students to compete against each other, but for them to increase mutual understanding. SAIF was not only seeking the best students, but the most suitable students for the program. The admission process is a two-way procedure.

Ms. Kathleen ZHANG, Assistant Director of SAIF's Career Development Center, explained how the CDC offers customized long-term career guidance. She also briefed the prospective students on the employment statistics of MF alumni. She emphasized that everyone should find their most suitable career direction. She encouraged students to write self-introduction statements and comment on each other's to better get to know each one another.

During the MF student and alumni sharing session, Mr. Dian JIAO from MF 2017, Mr. Yuejia LI from MF 2011, and Mr. Tingwei WANG from MF 2010 were invited to to the Shanghai Mini Camp I. Ms. Ruoyu CHENG from MF 2016 and Mr. Mingsi LI from MF2012 were invited to the Beijing Mini Camp I. They shared their life in SAIF, their career choices, and experiences, which added much to their successors' knowledge. The MF students, alumni, and staff were frequently asked about the difficulty on SAIF's courses, the new MF-FinTech track, the double admissions programs, and many other topics.
